World Journal of Organic Chemistry. 2020 8 (1). doi: 10.12691/wjoc-8-1-4
Keywords: 3-hydroxycoumarin, 3-(2-phenyl-oxo-ethoxy)-2H-chromen-2-one, AM1, electronic charges, fragmentation
Context: Coumarin derivatives are an important class of heterocyclic compounds with interesting physical and biological properties. 3-(2-phenyl-oxo-ethoxy)-2H-chromen-2-one is prepared by reacting 2-chloro-1-phenylethanone with 3-hydroxycoumarin in tetrahydrofuran using a suitable base. The structure of the newly obtained compound has been confirmed by conventional analytical methods such as infrared (IR), mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR). In mass spectrometry, fragmentation was studied in the context of the correlation between the fragmentation process and the value of the electronic charges obtained by the semi-empirical method AM1. This method, recently introduced in the study of mass spectra, allows to improve the explanation of the fragmentation process in ESI-MS and EIMS and even to predict fragment ions. We were able to successfully synthesize the title compound. The proposed structure was elucidated by spectral analysis. Concerning the fragmentation process, a good correlation between the fragmentation pathways and the electronic charges of the atoms was obtained.

Varsha Agrawal, Vivek Goyal, Amit Dhyani
Journal of Optoelectronics Engineering. 2016 4 (1). doi: 10.12691/joe-4-1-2
Keywords: laser seek test system, semiconductor diode laser, laser guided munitions, decoy laser, laser countermeasures, laser designator, laser seeker
Context: Precision guided munitions play a pivotal role in battlefield success by providing commanders with highly improved weapon accuracy. Laser guided bombs are widely exploited precision guided munitions in the contemporary battlefield scenario. These sophisticated weapons are of great tactical importance and also have huge price tags attached to them. Various countermeasures have evolved to deceive them from their intended target. This makes it important that their effectiveness is guaranteed 100 percent by validating operational parameters in realistic operational conditions including the effects of countermeasures designed to defeat their intended objective. This paper presents the design of an advance test system that can be used for comprehensive testing of laser seekers including its response to various types of decoying techniques. The approach is to use lasers having the same wavelength, pulse width and PRF as that of laser designators and countermeasure lasers simulating the same power densities as seen by the laser seekers. The hardware is configured around two semiconductor diode lasers having output wavelengths of 1064nm and PIC microcontroller based embedded system to drive these lasers. The laser seeker head was extensively tested using this advanced test system. The test results are presented in the paper.

An Innovative Method Designed for the Synthesis of Some New Mixed Ligand Ni(II) Complexes Its Characterization and Applications
Jitendra M. Pawara, Sunil S. Patil
World Journal of Chemical Education. 2021 9 (2). doi: 10.12691/wjce-9-2-3
Keywords: Ni(II) complexes, 2-amino-6-methyl pyridine-4-ol, amino acids, microwave, antimicrobial activity
Context: In the present work, a series of new mixed ligand Ni(II) complexes of the type [Ni(P)(L).2H2O] have been synthesized by using 2-amino-6-methyl pyrimidine-4-ol (HP), a primary ligand and N- and O- donor amino acids (HL) secondary ligands. Synthesis of Ni(II) complexes has been carried out by thermal and microwave methods. Results show that complexes synthesized by the microwave method were more efficient than the thermal method. Preparation time in the microwave method was short (4-7 min.) as compared to the thermal method (45 min.). Additionally, the microwave technique gave a very high yield (90%) of the complexes. The prepared complexes were characterized by Gouy experiment, FTIR, elemental analysis, TGA, and DTA at room temperature. The complexes have shown considerable antimicrobial activities such as antifungal and antibacterial activity.

Antibodies to Echinococcus granulosus Egg Antigens in Hydatid Patients: Characterization by Immunoblot and Diagnostic Value
Wissal IRAQI HOUSSAINI
American Journal of Microbiological Research. 2015 3 (1). doi: 10.12691/ajmr-3-1-5
Keywords: cystic echinococcosis, hydatidosis, hydatid patients, echinococcus granulosus, hydatid cyst fluid, protoscoleces, eggs
Context: Cystic echinococcosis/hydatidosis, caused by Echinococcus granulosus, is a chronic zoonotic larval cestode infection in humans. Human hydatidosis is a public health parasitic disease that is cosmopolitan in its distribution. Several years may last between contamination with E. granulosus eggs and development of symptomatic cysts. Antigens expressed by embryos at early differentiation steps between the embryo and the young cyst may be interesting as markers of early infection or reinfection. This study investigates antibody response (IgG) to E. granulosus egg antigens by Immunoblot (IB) and ELISA in 20 hydatid patients surgically confirmed. We have also tested sera using protoscoleces and hydatid cyst fluid (HCF) from E. granulosus. The results show that hydatid patients reacted to eggs as well as protoscoleces and HCF. However, eggs share antigens in common with other life-cycle stages, but also support the notion that they may possess some unique stage-specific antigens determinants. The possible functional significance and the potential use of combined assessment of these antigens in IB with Ig G response in ELISA are discussed.
