3.2. Subject and SamplingThe object of research is Vinh Long literature after 1975.
For many generations, we Vietnamese people have always been praised and delved into folk songs and proverbs in our family relationships. In poetry, too, family love is always described by poets with their true feelings for the most sacred things. Literature reflects reality in many dimensions, including clear expressions of culture. Literature promotes artistic values that express human aspirations in many relationships and towards truth - goodness - beauty, a world view, a view of life in social life. Do Lai Thuy commented: "People in urban society no longer live according to the eternal rhythm of crops and weather. They follow the rhythm of work and personal success in life. Time seems to flow faster for them. The sense of time, especially historical time, is sharpened and sharpened. People naturally go through the stages of childhood, youth, youth, middle age, old age... 2. In Vinh Long's poetry, too, the feelings of people in the family are always taken into account. First of all is the love of a mother who is not afraid of hardships, working hard, being frugal, carrying a heavy burden on her thin shoulders to worry about life and also to bring her child closer to the word: A family mother collects cassava fruit /Breaking each banana, digging out each potato/Lunch market is burdened with long journeys/Scraping every day to buy books for my children (years of waiting - Truy Phong).
Mother's hands seem to have magical power. Those are the hands that are diligent, diligent early and late, the hardships a mother carries for the family, giving her children an education, giving them wings to reach the shore of knowledge: The hands that are diligent/Caring for their children's education/Educating Taking care of the family/Diligence early and late (Mother's hand - Jade). Mom always has boundless love for me. Mother takes care of every bite of food and sleep, her lullabies go deep into the mind and subconscious of each of us and follow us for the rest of our lives, unforgettable: The scent of betel leaves Gold blends in every bite of rice/Mother fed me when I was still young/And the lullaby "Vi Cau Dau"/Has followed me all my life (Betel Fragrance - Ngoc Man). A mother's love for her child is so vast and vast. That merit is likened to the high sky and wide sea. Mother's whole life has always been hard, living in silent sacrifice for her children and for her family. With lyrics and a folk-song-like tone, Moon Cuu Long has brought readers poems that are both gentle, delicate and deeply philosophical: Every river finds its way to the sea/ Every child is raised by the mother/ Cuc urged the mother's pitying island/ As big as the sky, high and wide sea (Love of the salty sea - Cuu Long Moon). Mothers always give the best for their children. Those were the years with so many deep memories in every memory, the poor thatched roof protected me with simple happiness. Suddenly I realized that there is no paradise like my mother's homeland and then as time passed, my youth kept passing by quietly, silently in my surprise: There were times when I was tired. sleeping silently/Beside the flickering light in the night/I looked at my mother and was startled/Where is my youth (Mom - Le Hau). Mother always teaches us good things, she teaches us to love our homeland and roots. During times of war, mothers are always a great motivator, the one who urges their children to go out to defend the Fatherland, taking the great things seriously, even though they know that they leave without an appointment to return. A mother's pride in her children is always bright, she always watches over her children and even though it's fragile, she still looks forward to the family reunion every day: Mom lights an oil lamp/That lamp shines in the past/ Let me spell out the two words homeland/The country is engulfed in smoke and pain/We are of the same age, joining the army together/Sending you off, mom holds a lamp to light the way/That lamp is still waiting for us to return (The century lamp). concept - Ngoc Hai).
A mother's love for her child is unconditional, no matter the sun or rain, no matter how many hardships she goes through, she always protects, sacrifices and hopes for the best things to come to her child: Visit Her heels are worn out by the dew of her clothes/Mother carries hardships for many miles/The ship is broken and life is adrift in the wind/At the beginning and at the end the debt still lingers (Mother - Duong Thi Thu Van). If a mother's love is as vast and vast as the ocean, then a father's love for his child is extremely great. Father protected and raised me with extraordinary strength, he was willing to do everything for his children. A father's shoulders are always strong to give his child a solid support, to give him spiritual support to firmly walk on the challenging and thorny path of life: Father gives me sleep, gives me school/He gives me a life. firm faith/And father, I thought to myself/When will I be able to repay/For the great contributions/For a life of burdening my shoulders (Father - Vo Huynh Anh). To Song Hao, the poet had a very special affection when describing his father's misery. That is the image of his father's deeply sunken feet, cracked heels, blue veins,... all adjectives that evoke the image of a poor father working hard and arduously through the windy and rainy years of life. Dad is like that! The love for children and family is always hidden deep inside, the constant worry and concern so that the children have enough food and warm clothes: I was born from my father's feet/Deeply sunken feet /Green rolling veins like a cork tree holding the ground/Cracked heels protruding from the surface of the Dragon River branch (Where the river stops - Song Hao). The countryside is poor but very simple, filled with my father's passionate love. The image of a father hunching his shoulders to shoulder the burden of the family, giving his children smiles and deep sleep. Only when we grow up do we understand how great our parents' contributions are: When you understand that life is difficult and difficult to walk / Then your parents are too brave / The deep sleep you have / The bright smile you bring /A difficult trade-off/The father's shoulder to shoulder the burden (For the child - Ngoc Nga).
After many years of returning to the old hometown, the homeland evokes in us the distant past childhood. Mother is always kind and gentle with a heart as open as the vast ocean. Author Linh Phuong's verses sound nostalgic and heartbreaking. That is the image of a faithful mother, with a heavy heart for her father, even though he is no longer in this world, and his image only appears in dreams that appear in my memory: Returning to my hometown. Just go back to your hometown/On your thin shoulders, your mother carries the oath to love your father/The debt of love is like a vast ocean/Waiting for your husband for decades, your mother has been waiting/The hand rubs my eyes in my dreams/Running to find my father across the shores of the world (In my dream, I return). looking for father - Linh Phuong). Family love is also expressed in sisterly love. That is the image of the older sister with dewy sideburns and a deep sadness. That sadness is incomplete happiness and broken marriage. The verses are the feelings of a younger brother for his older sister through sympathy for the woman's fate: I feel sorry for your skinny figure/The twin sideburns are thick with snow/Ouch, a tangle of silk/Ouch In a love affair that was lost in the village/I'm angry but I love my sister/I swear, where is the person who betrayed me in the past (autumn Sad to love my sister - Thach Phi Diep).
Writing about family love, Vinh Long authors probably focus mainly on emotions. That feeling is the distillation of the hearts and people in the family who have given each other true, respectful feelings that are worthy of respect. Do Anh Vu (2023): "Through the typical family love relationships that we have surveyed from folk literature to modern poetry, we can see that family love is always an important topic. attention and focus in all periods of Vietnamese literature. This shows a deep awareness of honoring, praising and affirming Vietnamese family values, which always promote a lifestyle of respect, gratitude, loyalty, solidarity and love. care for each other and know how to sacrifice for each other. All of these things create strength for each family to overcome all difficulties and challenges in each of their journeys." The family affection of Vinh Long people in particular and Vietnamese people in general shows many levels that create a long-standing cultural tradition. Writing about people in family relationships, Vinh Long poets express in a gentle, respectful but very emotional tone the noble spiritual love of parents and the respect children have for them. for parents, the close bond between sisters and brothers is worthy of respect.
4.2. People in Love RelationshipsLove is like a love song, echoing to the sound of the hearts of like-minded souls. Sometimes, love is also the strength, helping people overcome all suffering to live usefully, knowing how to love, sympathize, and share with a sincere heart rich in altruism and not lying. Huynh Lam Ba “After 1975, love in Mekong Delta poetry is more real, more real, more complicated and also more painful. Many works are written about love from many different angles. The works express a couple's love with simple dreams. There is love that reaches the shore of happiness, but it also goes through many ups and downs, there is love that is difficult and painful for many reasons. Love poems have expressed many different complex forms like the lulling waves of love: happiness and unhappiness, hope and disappointment, trust and doubt, reunion and separation" 3. Vinh Long's poetry is the same, when writing about people in love relationships, each poet has a way of expressing many different emotions. For Van Quoc Thanh, love can be the first thrill of life with the image of the golden moonlight not yet revealed, the scent of hair in a romantic space but the boy's mood is still confused and innocent: Next to the railing of plum leaves the beginning of the season/On the night of the 10th, the golden moonlight has not yet appeared/The scent of someone's hair is mixed in the breeze/I accidentally crushed the green plum leaves (The first plum leaves of the season - Van Quoc Thanh).
School love can be said to be the most beautiful and innocent. That love is so pure, it is the image of a couple sitting next to each other in the classroom, sometimes just looking at each other but that feeling is so strange and shy that the hand still does not dare to hold: The first class /You and me... our words are still naive/The teacher sat next to each other at the same table/From that day we both looked at each other and smiled/Love has gotten closer but hands are still afraid to hold hands (Butterflies in the past - Cuu Long Moon) . Loving but not daring to say or express it is an image often encountered in poems about love between couples. The same goes for Nguyen Xuan Quang, the poet puts his character in a state of uncertainty and does not know how to open a relationship, and then has to regret a lost love: You know, yesterday I was very foolish/Read the letter You came a hundred times/It was only a hundred times that I passed away/When it's too late, the saying goes for a hundred years (Late Words - Nguyen Xuan Quang). In each of us, there is a time when our youth played innocently. But it is that innocent youth that has deposited in the soul the vibrations of first love associated with many memories of childhood. It's a game of hide and seek that makes the lover's heart restless and flutter: The January sun squints his eyes/Why does the heart flutter/We play the game of hide and seek/Who knows when we'll be a couple (January sun) - Nguyen Thanh Kinh). Waiting in love is also an eternal topic for poets. With Ho Tinh Tam, that waiting falls into a space of the afternoon, suddenly the rain comes, making the lyrical character sob even more as if he were blaming or angry: The afternoon rain is full of love/Puffing bubbles. Who/But the rain drips and rains all the time/The moon bows sobbing/The tears fill my chest/I'm so tired of waiting for you to come home (Afternoon - Tinh Tam Lake). Love is like a love song, resounding sometimes low and sometimes high. Phan Phuc Binh seems to explain the rules of love. Even though time passes quickly, people become more mature and think more correctly, the love for each other is still the same as when we were children, full of purity and innocence of love and jealousy when angry: Time Even though I'm an adult/But my love is still like a child/Mixed with love is jealousy and anger/Don't be sad when time passes quickly (Self-love - Phan Phuc Binh).
Love is sometimes a fate and just the first meeting makes their hearts flutter. Song Hao describes that vibration as both gentle and loving and seems to give a proposition to explain that meeting as a destiny to return to love, to hear his own feelings, to love. love, to remember and to be angry: If that day hadn't been there/ Surely I would have met you/ To hear my heart flutter/ To love and be angry (Remember - Song Hao). Nostalgia in love also makes the lover restless and longing. When they love, they always wish to be close to each other, to enjoy the sweet nectar of love so that they no longer have to be lonely, longing, and looking forward: There are times when both ends are far apart/I feel sad and quiet on New Year's Eve/ The sky is vast and the earth is swaying with breath/You are far away from me, only nostalgia remains (Sometimes - Diep Quoc Viet). Couple love has also become a common cultural feature of Vietnamese people. That culture has existed for a long time. Using the way of talking about folk culture, Truy Phong has a very unique perspective, borrowing the images of cuffs, crabs, checkers, and chokes to imply that the love between a boy and a girl is closer, creating a feeling of closeness, deep and profound: The procession of the crab to live with the crab/The checkered boy, the girl is full of rich old love/Pink invitations from near and far/One lotus bud, ten trays of wine and tea (Reunion - Truy Phong). The mood of a person in love sometimes rises strongly but is no less delicate. They want to lean on a strong shoulder, lean on a safe chest so that they can feel peace and protection, so that their hearts swell with an indescribable emotion like the whisper of happiness in love: I lean on your shoulder/I lean on your chest/The feeling of being trusted and overflowing/The feeling of peace and overflowing/The feeling of being protected and overflowing (For the person I love - Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat) .
In love, female characters are often weak. No matter what difficulties life may encounter, all they need is an embrace, a strong shoulder, and all the storms will suddenly become gentle and disappear, peaceful. People in love feel safer and have more motivation and confidence: Suddenly realize/Your arms are too wide/Nest on my shoulder/Heaven and earth melt away the storm/Peace follows sweet green dreams (Yes body - Thai Hong). The mood of a person in love can sometimes be fragile and confused. They do not have enough faith and strength to overcome life's obstacles and are sometimes afraid of words of love that are too passionate because their first love is often a love that is fragile and easily broken: Please don't scare me/What are your words of love? passionately/Please don't scare me/I'm afraid my first love will fade away (First Love Lyrics - Bang Lang). Love between couples in poetry is expressed in many different ways. That is secret love associated with memories, words of love that do not dare to be expressed, waiting, anger, wishes and happiness in love. Besides, breaking up in love is inevitable. That brokenness is sometimes in a dream, they have to feel pain and quietly when facing it alone, then they fall into a state of anxiety and have their own feelings: Suddenly realizing/The daydream/The dream of not daring to calling your name/Quietly the pain of your shadow/Agonizing over your own silent feelings (Dreams that don't dare to name you - Bich Ngan) That broken love is probably now just a memory for those who have experienced love . They still keep that memory in their hearts forever, even though time passes quickly and fades over the years, they still give each other the best and purest things: Does the old boat still cross the river? The whole place of memories in me/The boat crosses each day we travel together/Who would have thought the dream of a green day would be shattered (Memory Area - Ngoc Man). In love, when they suddenly realize that they cannot be together for some reason, they sometimes see it as a fate, a debt. Ha Ngoc Trang describes that debt as a message with a wish to be able to repay it in the next life to enjoy full happiness: One hundred years in the same place I lie/When I suddenly wake up, the debt is still around/In the next life, if heaven still exists, green/May we both have a good night's sleep in love/(Prayer - Ha Ngoc Trang).
Writing about love between couples, the authors use gentle, profound and musical language. Because “poetry reflects life through emotional vibrations. Like the beating of the heart when touched, poetic language has its own rhythm. The poet's inner world is not only expressed by the meaning of the words but also by the rhythmic sound of those words 4. Couple love always brings us humans many levels of emotions. Love always gives people a positive life energy, bringing people closer together. Love is like a miracle, thanks to love, we humans view the reality of life with a gentle, positive, and sympathetic lens.
4.3. People are Attached to Love for Their Homeland and CountryTran Dinh Su commented: "In the literary innovation from the mid-80s of the 20th century to the early 21st century, poetry did not have a pioneering role and a prominent position like prose genres, but it still appeared. persistent presence in literary life, still a part of the cultural life and consciousness of readers" (2023, p.301). When talking about the South, we must mention the beauty of the natural scenery of the river region, which has created a deep inspiration and creativity for the author to produce good works, going deep into people's hearts with many emotions. different contact. G.N Pospelov commented: "The profound and true-historical explanation of the described characters, which arises from the objective national meaning of those characters, is the creative ideological inspiration of the writer." and of the writer's work” (1985, pp. 167, 168). It can be said that Vinh Long poets have a very special love for their homeland and country. Vinh Long is a land that was formed quite a long time ago, located in the lower Mekong River basin, where there is an intricate river system with a large amount of alluvium. Therefore, the nature of this land is very fertile, the scenery is very charming, the trees are full of fruit and this land is associated with many cultural traditions and history of the nation: My country is called Vietnam. /The ancestral homeland of thousands of years ago/Is where I live now/Business is prosperous thanks to my country/I love the Vietnamese people forever/We share the same blood and the same place of birth (My country - Truy Phong).
Going into the countryside, we can feel that human life is still more difficult than in the city. Specifically, the Khmer ethnic people in Phum and Soc. The simple life and the dream of having a bridge to connect the two banks of the village have now become a reality, contributing to changing the face of the homeland: The Can Chong River flows endlessly into Rach Lop/The newly built bridge brings wistful joy. dream/The road to the Khmer village follows the business village/How many thoughts push the foot of the bridge - the foundation is lurking (On the banks of Rach Lop River - An Phuong). Vinh Long is known as the land of amateur music associated with the famous artist Ut Tra On with the title "First Famous Singer" and amateur music activities are a type of cultural activity that is preserved and promoted. until now. Besides, down to the affiliated districts, each place seems to have its own products such as: Mang Thit is famous for its brick village and pottery kiln; Tam Binh is famous for oranges; Binh Minh with the flavor of sweet, fragrant, succulent five whip grapefruit; Tan Quoi is the king of the sweet potato land of the southern region and the whole country: Listen to him sing the sweet song of Vong Co/Remember Tra On, Mang Thit, Tam Binh/Sing more, my way back to the country/The fragrant bowl of sweet potato fields , Binh Minh grapefruit/The boat going down to the Tan Quoi region/The fragrant sweet potatoes withering on the side of the road (Remembering Vinh Long - Nguyen Hong Oanh).
Nguyen Thi Thu Trang commented: "Human beings always exist in a certain living environment. Love and attachment to the homeland are not only natural and available feelings but also an inevitable consequence of the relationships and behaviors of natural people and their living space" (2015, p. 43). Indeed, the love for the land and the people of Vinh Long is like that, the alluvial veins constantly enrich the trees, sweet fruits, and lush rice fields. Then when listening to the songs and singing voices of honest, kind-hearted ordinary people with hospitable hearts: The alluvial water has rolled over the years/For the trees laden with sweet grapefruit branches in autumn and winter/Who named Tam Binh, Mang Thirsty/My heart is filled with longing/The fragrance of Vung Liem rice, the fragrance of Tan Quoi potatoes/Sweet sweet song that makes anyone's heart sing (Remembering Vinh Long - Le Tan). Returning to the land of Binh Minh, a homeland of the sunny region wind, land, sky, water, and associated with ferry trips filled with memories of countless generations and travelers from far away places. Vinh Long poets have made readers feel that "the homeland not only transforms the soul but is truly a spiritual value that has been preserved and preserved. People inherit the soul of a land, so when reflected in literature, they also create unique images and emotions about that place" 5. Therefore, poet Nguyen Hong Trung has brought us back to his homeland with its simple beauty, poetic tone, and lyrics that have the sound of very familiar folk songs: Coming here is very beautiful, Binh Minh/Land, sky, and canal water. ferry trip/No matter who travels near and far/Please visit My Hoa, use Nam Roi grapefruit (Very beautiful Binh Minh - Nguyen Hong Trung). During the war, Binh Minh was a solid base of the revolution such as Dong Phuoc ancient pagoda, which housed and welcomed many revolutionary cadres inside and outside the province. This is a place where meetings are regularly held and revolutionary activities are held such as spreading leaflets, hanging hammer and sickle flags to protest many brutal policies introduced by France and the US,... when the enemy discovered the base. There, here, many monks and soldiers have heroically sacrificed: Open my heart to the color green/With the scent of grapefruit flowers and the love of the countryside/Here in the past, my father/Shed so much blood to win freedom (Feeling Binh Minh - Thanh Khoi).
Homeland always reminds us of the purest and most simple things. Homeland is a vast green field, storks fluttering and flying. Homeland is associated with a loose bamboo bridge, images of green cork groves, boats, and water wharfs that remind us of a calm, peaceful sky and water: In the afternoon at the water wharf, the boat stands on a pole and waits/The cork ridge is green throughout the four seasons/The bamboo bridge crisscrosses the banks/I take your hand through every morning/The stork's wings tilt and flash pink sunlight/My eyes look at the green fields immense (Sending you nostalgia for your homeland - Van Le Trinh). Homeland is not strange to those who have lived and experienced the river region. That image seems to be associated with culture and the space of human spiritual life. Do Lai Thuy commented: "Urban life liberates people first of all in space. First is geographical space, then social space and finally mental space. The people of the village have never left the village. Their horizon is the village's bamboo ramparts." (2018, p. 48). That's why the image of the flood season, the image of vegetables just sprouting, reminds us of memories of poor meals that were very rustic, simple, not fussy, but very everyday, with a strong Western character: Wherever I go, I miss you and the Town/The water season is filled with the sound of birds in the sky/The ground vegetables sprout after the flood/To passionately call Vinh Long forever (Sunshine on Tien River - Bang Lang).
The spirit of loving one's homeland and country is eternal. These are young volunteers, always boiling with the spirit of fighting for independence. These people live and fight with faith and determination to create strength, even though blood is shed, but the hearts of these soldiers are always filled with a spirit of steel, always ready to protect the country. Homeland: Going to the battlefield with comrades/I'm sure the steel gun will rush forward to destroy the enemy/The spirit of patriotism is high/Even if blood is shed, my heart will not be shaken (The day I return - Khoi). Going into peacetime life, people always strive to study and enrich their country and homeland. It is the image of a peacetime soldier still wearing a soldier's shirt and in a ready-to-fight position. That soldier always worked with the people to build the homeland, making the youth red with enthusiasm: We grew up when the country was peaceful/The soldier's shirt made the youth red/The days we spent together with the people. dike to prevent floods/Let's catch the bridge across the nine canal five (Name of the army - Hai Phong). The image of a border guard is always portrayed with a simple image but showing a high sense of responsibility. That mission is truly sacred, even though it is arduous, they always stand side by side with the people day and night to protect the sea and islands for peace and prosperity: The unit is the house, the mission is life/Even though it is difficult, we stand side by side. with the people/At the guard post at night, the night is windy/The love of the army and the people tightens the love song (Border Guard Soldier - Trinh).
The love for the homeland of the people of Vinh Long is expressed through verses that are sometimes gentle, sometimes strong in spirit. People in times of war and in times of peace are always beautiful images in the work of building a more prosperous and beautiful homeland. The authors of Vinh Long seem to be aware that "for eternity, nature has always been a source of comfort and a great friend of humans. Coming to the South, nature is abundant and gentle like mother's milk that nourishes dreams, souls and human stature. The harmonious relationship between humans and nature in literature, no matter what period or part of literature, is of interest with unique findings. The journey to discover the people and nature of the South through literature is also a journey back to historical and cultural roots. In particular, the message from the artistic images conveyed by the writer is that nature - culture - people cannot be separated in order to aim for sustainable development, the choice of a smart lifestyle, suitable for society. current and future society (Pham Tiet Khanh, 2022). Reading Vinh Long's poetry during this period, we see the gentleness and sophistication, praising the rich natural scenery full of products of this land of spiritual masterpieces and people associated with cultural traditions that have existed for many generations.
The emotional life of the Southern people through Vinh Long poetry from 1975 to the beginning of the 21st century is described by poets in many aspects, most notably love for homeland, family love and love Couple. Nikolai Ivanovich Nikulin once commented that "scientists have confirmed that poetry is an important genre in Southeast Asian literature: Indian, Thai, Cambodian poetic stories, Vietnamese poetic stories" 6. Through Vietnamese poetry, people have been in harmony with nature with the space of canals, orchards full of branches, or traditional craft villages, creating a picture of life that is simple, simple, but no less unique. romantic. Simple and kind people know how to appreciate and love nature, and the love between couples is shown very delicately, gently and strongly. People are always faithful and make silent sacrifices to cultivate family happiness. In general, the images of Vietnamese people in Vinh Long's poetry during this period represent historical and modern people and that is "the phenomenon of the author considering himself a creator of forms before having a sense of creation." out the content, because they do not have a full sense of fiction. Therefore, they especially value the refinement of form to the point of virtuosity and proficiency like an artist" 7. It can be said that Vietnamese poets have portrayed the inherent beauty from the soul to the straightforward, straightforward, liberal, hospitable personality and especially the people who always value respectful feelings.
